Why is it that those who are supposed to lead us never learn? Are they too arrogant to believe they do not need to heed the lessons of history? Or too blind to see what is occurring right before their eyes? Or are they too stupid to understand, or too self-obsessed to care?
For the lessons are plain, their message clear to all thinking people. The Arab Spring, the London Riots, the Civil Unrest in Greece, France, Italy, protests in America, Japan and Australia. Even in that bastion of conservative capitalism Switzerland.
World-wide, populations have been pushed too far for too long. Greed has so clouded the minds of those in power that they cannot, or will not, comprehend that, in their insatiable quest for ‘more’, they will bring about their own downfall, and in the so doing cause immeasurable harm and destruction to millions of innocent, decent people.
And the real tragedy of the lack of leadership and corruption of power which will bring about this disaster, is that it is all avoidable.
We, as humans, have the skills and capacity to do wonderful things. To eliminate disease, to eradicate poverty, to ensure fairness, equality and justice. But those who wield the power seem to lack the will or wisdom to achieve these goals.
Perhaps this is why so many countries are seeking to change their leaders.
