A Matter of Conscience

Published on Tuesday, 28 April 2020 14:18

As much of the world struggles to deal with this tragic pandemic engulfing its inhabitants, I would like to dedicate this work to those countless, courageous, unsung heroes who daily put their life at risk to protect us.

There comes a time in many of our lives when we have to make a choice.

Do we listen to our conscience, and do the ‘right thing’?

Or do we disregard our moral compass and do what is expedient?

Often circumstances dictate our actions. Events beyond our control might provide us with a convenient justification for the indefensible. But it is what we voluntarily choose to do that determines the consequences which follow. Because our every action brings about its own consequences, good or bad.

Perhaps if we spent more time considering consequences, we would be more thoughtful about what we do, both to our planet and to its people.

DEDICATION

To everyone who unselfishly battles the dreaded Corona virus, I offer my sincere gratitude. To those who tend the ill and dying I extend my sympathy.

There are many at this time who are alone, frightened, worried about the future, and striving to cope with the present. To all of you who are the ‘carers’, words cannot express my admiration. Your messages, phone calls or visits mean so much. Your kind thoughts and offers of assistance reassure
such folk they are not forgotten, that they still matter.

No-one can say when this torment will end. But with respect and understanding for fellow sufferers, the inherent goodness of humanity will prevail. All this will pass, it is the nature of things. Until then, ‘Be kind to each other!’
